If the new content workflow is truly cloud-native — that is, purposely built to operate in the cloud — then it can streamline processes and improve collaboration across all phases of the content.
Some theorize that the age of the dinosaurs came to an end as the result of a falling meteor. Will cable operators survive the impact of their own meteor? [...]

Now that the 2017 NAB Show has wrapped up and I have had a little time to reflect, there a couple of things that stand out in terms of industry direction and technology trends [...]
At this year’s Preakness Stakes, a horse named Cloud Computing won the race in a major upset. I am not a huge racing enthusiast, but had I been betting on this race, I would have picked this horse based on its name alone. Yes, I am a little geeky, and I like the name. I would have ignored the stats and predictions. Most of my sports betting is for fun, so losing the few dollars wouldn’t have broken the bank. In hindsight, I regret not betting on this horse! [...]

The IBC Innovation Awards are unique in our industry. They reward the best applications of technology to achieve a real goal for the broadcaster or media company. They might add to creativity, enable the enterprise to work more effectively, or use new ways to reach and engage with audiences.
What I’m curious about is this: What change agents will be present at NAB? My colleague Jack Wenzinger wrote a fantastic blog on this topic at the beginning of the year called “Change Agents to Watch in 2017,” and I’ve been thinking about how his blog might align – or not – with some of the themes at NAB. I asked him if his observations had changed since he wrote the blog post and what he was interested in at NAB. He commented on a few [...]

There once was a boy named Hadley Wrights (Had for short), the owner of a vast collection of baseball cards that he had meticulously collected, bought, and traded for over the years. This collection was his pride and joy, easily the best collection in town. Unfortunately, no one other than Had, or the inside of his closet, could see his collections for years Had’s friends had begged him to show him his cards, to share the joy of seeing some of those iconic cards and even try to make some money by displaying them on special occasions. He liked that idea but thought it was too much trouble [...]

I once had a boss who said ‘(users) can have it right, they can have it fast, or they can have it cheap but you can’t have all 3.’ We at Wazee Digital constantly strive to create a product that makes end-users lives easier at the right moment for the right cost. As part of our unicorn hunting skillset product managers should listen, watch, and listen some more to the end-users. Ask questions to understand and determine what the problem is that needs solving. Listen some more. Then collaborate with our teams and the user(s) to determine how best to create and gift the unicorn back to the user with a side of rainbow sprinkles. This is where I will let you know that the Unicorn here is YouTube Publishing, and the Sprinkles? Monetization [...]
I watch prediction articles come through from multiple sources and each year I have the same preamble thought:” Yeah, right…” There’s always customers or specific events that shape the view of how the industry will change. The reality, is that we should be focused on the underlying changes that will help drive what occurs in 2017. In my estimation, it’s more important to look to at the change agents for the year so here’s my predictions of the change agents to watch in 2017 [...]

From inception, our services have been in the cloud, provided globally outside the firewall; this latest evolution is to start the process to architect our services into purpose driven APIs that adhere to agile best practices and provide a truly global, elastic, secure SaaS platform [...]
As I sit down to pen this revelation on the complexities and challenges of content ingest and metadata management, I find my head spinning as if it were the first time the concept ever entered my mind. The truth is, I actually do this for a living and still, the task is that daunting [...]
